Rosemary, “The Herb of Remembrance”
Rosemary has a long herbal traditional a herb that improves concentration and memory. Greek students would braid Rosemary into their hair to help them with their exams.
Modern science attributes much of of rosemary’s action on the central nervous system to it’s potent antioxidant, rosmarinic acid.
D,K.Rosemary is easy to grow and has many uses and benefits. When I read the healthful claims, I wanted my own rosemary plant. Not only do I cook with it, but use blended rosemary in my bath.
Some of the claims state that Rosemary can improve memory, help to manage diabetes,arthritis, circulation as well as makes a terrific hair and skin tonic.
D.K. Some of the articles I read mentioned that Rosemary extracts used in shampoos and herbal rinses worked wonders with hair loss.
For hair loss: It has been said that Rosemary is one of the best hair tonics, whether you are worried about hair loss, or just want healthy and happy hair. Rosemary extracts can be used in shampoos or hair rinses.
A few drops of the essential oil can be applied directly to the scalp or hair brush to restore dry, flyaway hair and make it shine, Rosemary essential oil stimulates hair follicles and circulation in the scalp, which may help prevent baldness.
Cooking tips: Rosemary can lend itself well to roasted meats, chickens, and stews. A few teaspoons of chopped rosemary lends a tangy taste. A couple of more ideas would be to make a tea with it or rosemary vinegar.
Medicinal: Joy Bauer,MS, RD, CDN, author of Joy Bauer”s Food Cures states, “Rosemary is a wonderful, fragrant herb that is easy to grow and quite versatile when it comes to cooking.
Rosemary contains the antioxidant compounds caffein acid and rosmarinic acid. Laboratory studies have shown that rosmarinic acid can protect against cell damage and prevent DNA fragmentation.”
D.K. I did read pregnant women should not use Rosemary in large amounts (cooking is fine). If you choose to use the Rosemary essential oil during pregnancy check with your medical practitioner.
