How often we have heard, “I can get everything from food.”
Should we take vitamins and minerals?
Vitamins and minerals are vital nutrients for our bodily functions and prevention of disease.
“In a large 26,000 person study it was concluded that not one person received the nutritional requirements set forth by the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance). 96% of the U.S. Population dies of a disease. We are not getting proper nutrition…” HEALTH AWARENESS FOUNDATION
D.K. I loved visiting my grandpa when he was alive. He was such a man of the earth. He was so proud of his vegetable garden. We never thought about taking vitamins then. His food tasted so wonderful and I am sure it was nutrient dense. Fast forward 50 or so years and unfortunately, farming is not the same and we are paying a price for that.
D.K. When I owned a health food store in Miami Springs, Florida (before my 32 year flight attendant career began) I “thought” all supplements were created equal and even suggested to my customers to buy the least expensive priced ones. Oh my goodness, have I learned a lot since those days!!! Over 50% of supplements are not bio-available ( nutrients not absorbed by the body) . So no matter how little they cost, if they are not absorbed the money paid for them is wasted!
I have shared my heart health journey in MY STORY section which led me to supplementations.
I have been given a second chance with my improved defected heart and give credit to my creator first and also to USANA HEALTH SCIENCES for the outstanding and proven cellular supplements I took as my pathway for healing.
WHERE DO VITAMINS/MINERALS COME FROM?
VITAMINS: Are natural substances found in living things such as plants.
These substances must be obtained in the body from foods or supplements as they cannot usually be produced by the body.
MINERALS: are found in plants where they get their minerals from the soil.
Soil gets minerals from water washing over the rocks.
VITAMINS AND MINERAL WORK AS “A TEAM.”
For example, the soldier (vitamins) needs food and water (minerals) to go into battle. Vitamins and minerals work together to provide nutrition to our cells.
ANTIOXIDANTS: Are specific vitamins and minerals that protect our bodies from free radicals (bad guys) that cause damage to our cells.
FREE RADICALS can come from smoking, excess sunlight, stress, and various unhealthy lifestyle choices.
THESE FREE RADICALS ARE ONE OF THE PRIMARY CAUSES OF PREMATURE AGING, SICKNESS AND DISEASE.
HOW DO VITAMINS/MINERALS GET IN THE BODY?
Vitamins and minerals get into our bodies when we eat plants such as fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and spices or when you take vitamin/mineral supplements.
What are supplements?
They are vitamins and minerals that have been extracted from a plant or created in a laboratory. They are then put in a form that can be used by the body.
There are supplements that are: effective, ineffective and some are hazardous. We will chat about that in the future. I have seen X-rays with whole vitamin pills passing through the intestines. They never got broken down or absorbed. I will look for the x-ray and post later.
D.K. I have consulted “Nutrisearch Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements “……consumer edition by Lyle MacWilliam, BSc, MSc, FP to learn what independent research revealed concerning over 1600 nutritional products.
Each supplement product was compared and given a star rating like ratings for hotels.
It is a very impressive guide with 18 support criteria enhanced to accommodate new research findings.
If you choose to learn more about how your supplement is rated, I consider this a reliable source.
